Barnaby and his Friend Rocky the Jinx
Barnaby and Pip were working together to build a small fence around the water well to protect everyone from falling in. As Barnaby was lifting a heavy stone, their friend Rocky the raccoon said with admiration, "Wow, you're so strong, Barnaby!" At that exact moment, the stone slipped and fell on Barnaby's toe, making him cry out in pain.
The friends started to notice that unfortunate things always happened right after Rocky praised something. One day, he told Barnaby's mother as she was picking grapes, "You're so graceful!" and she immediately fell off the ladder. When he told Barnaby during a bike race, "You're incredibly fast!", Barnaby instantly crashed into a tree.
Barnaby and Pip tried to convince Rocky that maybe his words were accidentally jinxing them. But Rocky refused angrily, saying, "It's all just a coincidence!" However, after his friends started avoiding him, he felt lonely and began to think about their words.
After the bicycle accident, Rocky finally realized the problem was real. He went to Barnaby's mother and sadly asked for her help. Barnaby's mother kindly taught him to say nice and supportive things when he sees something he likes, such as, "Wow, that's amazing! I'm so happy for you!" or "May you always be so strong!"
Rocky started to practice what he learned. When he saw Barnaby jumping skillfully, he immediately shouted, "That's wonderful! May you always be so good at jumping!" And nothing bad happened. Rocky was so happy and made sure to always use these kind phrases.
His friends were delighted with Rocky's change and happily started playing with him again. And so, children, we should always remember to use kind and happy words when we see something we like, to protect ourselves and our loved ones.
