The Little Rabbit Who Learned His Lesson
The Story
There once was a clever little rabbit named Pipkin, who believed he was old enough to know everything. He no longer listened much to his mother's advice, thinking she was often overprotective and worried too much.
One day, as his mother was preparing a delicious carrot soup, she told him sternly, "Pipkin, do not touch the pot, it's very hot." But Pipkin ignored her words, whispering to himself, "She always exaggerates." With a swift movement, he dipped his finger in the soup to taste it. "Ouch!" he cried in pain. His little finger was burned. His mother rushed over, applied a cool ointment, and wrapped it in a bandage. Pipkin looked at her with teary eyes and said, "I promise I'll listen to you next time."
A few days later, his mother gave him a small basket and said, "This is some food for our friend, Spike the hedgehog. Go straight to his house, and be careful! Never take the western path; a dangerous hunter lives there." Pipkin agreed, but halfway there, he thought that the western path was much shorter. "What if I just take this path this one time? I'll be very careful."
Pipkin walked down the western path and felt a strange silence. The trees were still, and there was no sound of birds. Suddenly, he heard a rustle in the bushes. Before he could run, the hunter appeared, caught him, and put him in a small iron cage. Pipkin was terrified and realized his mother had been right all along.
When Pipkin didn't return, his mother grew very worried and went out to look for him. On the way, she met Spike the hedgehog and Willow the deer. The three friends came up with a clever rescue plan. Willow ran swiftly in front of the hunter to distract him and lead him away from the cage. Meanwhile, the mother and Spike snuck towards the cage, and Spike used his strong quills to pick the lock.
The plan worked, and Pipkin was free! He ran to his mother and hugged her tightly, crying with regret. "I'm so sorry, Mom. You were right. I promise I will never disobey your instructions again." Pipkin learned a valuable lesson that day: parents' advice isn't meant to restrict us, but to shield us from harm.
