A Father Learns a Lesson from His Son
Velan was a carpenter who lived in a village. His mother had died long ago, and his old father Kuppan lived with him. Kuppan was very weak because Velan didn’t feed him properly. He gave him a small earthen plate so even a little rice looked like a lot. Velan was cruel and often drank and shouted at his father.Velan had a son named Muthu, just ten years old. Muthu loved and respected his grandfather and disliked his father’s behavior.
One day, Kuppan dropped his earthen plate and spilled his food. Velan got angry and insulted him harshly. The old man felt deeply hurt.
Muthu saw everything. He was sad but afraid to speak up. The next day, he took carpentry tools and started making a wooden plate.
Velan asked, “What are you making?”
“I’m making a wooden plate for you, father. When you grow old like grandpa, I’ll give you this plate. It won’t break easily, and I won’t shout at you.”
Velan was shocked. He remembered how kind his father had been. He felt ashamed and changed completely. From that day, he treated his father with respect and gave up drinking.
